32"x 48" Polished grout & dry pigment on ISO panel
My work is process driven. I depend upon the properties of the medium to dictate the direction and content of the work. This necessitates experimentation and reliance upon mistakes and accidents to influence the evolution of the art. Mixed media allows me the freedom to try anything without concern for academics. This freedom adds mystery and excitement to my art. I allow my intuition and personal taste to decide what is embraced and what is rejected or deleted. The environment around me is teaming with visuals that inspire me and foster ideas for my next piece. Every artist I have ever spoken with admits to seeing random textures, colors and shapes in their surroundings that strike them as perfect beyond improvement. I strive to produce seemingly random compositions that achieve a pinnacle beyond my conscious capabilities. This act of allowance requires the ability to accept inevitable failures as part of the process and not a measure of one's abilities or lack there of. Lessons learned. The next piece will always be better!
LOVE the textures!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue! I appreciate your comment.
ReplyDeleteLove your art and have been looking at your videos. Searched for someone doing cement abstract art, and found them. Just wondering if you still at it? Seems like a long time with no new posts. Anyway I'll try this one day myself. You've done great work, and I think maybe a little ahead of its time! Hoping to see more. Its very inspiring.
