Welcome

I am an artist, not a writer. My Intent is not to educate, enlighten or inspire but rather to clarify my motivations to myself. I find that when I write down the thoughts and reasons that I take certain paths, it helps me to avoid repeating the same mistakes over and over again. Let's face it, authentic work evolves through a series of mistakes, lessons learned and options eliminated.

First piece of 2012

“Respite”  30”x 36” polished cement & dry pigment on panel

Hope everyone had a great holiday.  I took some much needed time off from my art but now it is time to return to my passion.
Every time I remove myself from my work for a period of time, it seems that doubts about it's validity creep into my mind. This always enables a state of debilitating depression.  The only cure seems to be to push on through and do the work.  I am tentative at first but hope that confidence will return as new pieces emerge.

  1. I totally hear you my brother in art!!!

Going through the same emotions as we speak. I just got back from 11 days off. I needed the break because I was starting to burn out but, now am trying to re-aquaint myself.

Keep pushing. You are right. It is the only cure.

  2. Hi William, like Mary, I totally hear you!

I took some time off also and yesterday was my first day back in the studio. I had to clear off the table as it became a drop off spot during December. Once down to the wood again I found a little project I'd started a year ago and that inspired me to work on it some more. Happily I can say I'm forging ahead with that and might even attempt working on a painting I started a month ago.

Soon you'll be back in your art creating groove and loving it again!

  3. Just keep on working. I try to spend at least 1/2 to one hour in the studio even on those days when other commitments are calling me. It helps keep me on track.
